Our History

Frank Louis Krause was born in Germany in 1837. He immigrated to the Cleveland are when he was 11 years old and eventually went to Michigan University where he graduated as the school's first Civil Engineering major.

Frank L. returned to Cleveland in 1860 and founded the company that would eventually be known as Frank B. Krause & Associates. His projects included routing the Nickle Plate Railroad through Cleveland and design of various inter-urban car line routes. He also did land subdivisions, property surveys and work in the City Engineering Department.

Frank L. died in 1919, after training his only son, Frank B. Krause Sr. as a surveyor and civil engineer. Frank B. Sr. was an active part of the engineering community in Cleveland and made a name for himself as an expert in racetrack design.

Frank B. Krause, Sr., in turn, trained two of his sons, Frank B. Krause, Jr. and Robert H. Krause as civil engineers and land surveyors. Frank B. Jr. served in the US Army Corps of Engineers and was stationed in France during World War I.

Frank B. Jr. also trained his sons, Frank B. Krause, III, Richard R. Krause and John L. Krause as surveyors.

Currently, the firm is owned by Robert P. Krause, the son of Richard and the fifth generation Krause surveyor.

Proof of our longevity in the Cleveland surveying community can be found in the form of survey records, maps and survey points throughout the State of Ohio.
